BIRRA / KRUG BRAU - GERMANY
Franconia frankly beats France
He has expanded from 300 hectolitres to almost 40,000 hectolitres over the course of decades, while always remaining true to himself. Who are we talking about here? Brewery owner, innkeeper, DJ, amateur actor and paterfamilias Konrad “Conny” Krug. His beer tastes better each time you try it. So good, in fact, that the Krug-Bräu Brewery in the Upper-Franconian village of Breitenlesau could hardly fill the bottles and casks fast enough.

TECH / WORM AND STARWHEEL
Worm and starwheel can be adjusted for a different bottle diameter
Beverage diversity is rising, bottle sizes and bottle shapes vary with the product category and target group involved. In bottling operations for still and sparkling wines, particularly, relatively small batches sometimes have to be run in multifarious container variations of round and special-shaped bottles, all in quick succession. In the small and medium output ranges as well.

OLIO / RIAZOR - PORTUGAL
Golden-yellow and aromatic
In Portugal, the Riazor company has now started to bottle olive oils and other edible oils in-house. For this purpose, Riazor installed a PET line and a glass line, both of them from Kosme.

ACQUA / NU-PURE - AUSTRALIA
Concentrating on the brand
An upmarket approach to spring water: Nu-Pure Beverages in the Australian town of Yatala near Brisbane, with its eponymous Nu-Pure Spring Water, prioritises brand policy and a high-price strategy, giving preference to the horeca market (hotels, restaurants, catering), and is reap-ing abundant rewards. For its filling technology, the mid-tier privately owned Australian company prefers relatively small, flexible line units with high-tech solutions from Kosme.

BIRRA / FASSLA - GERMANY
A barrel full of fun
The mid-tier Fässla Brewery, with its 33,000 hectolitres of output, embodies precisely the picture that springs to people’s minds at the mention of “a traditional family-owned brewery”: specialty beers, cosy convivial taverns, and a familial, down-to-earth self-im-age. Its name of Fässla, which translates as “small barrel”, fits in neatly with this arche-type.

VINO / MOSELLAND - GERMANY
Vine-claps slopes
Nestling in the spectacular riverscape of the Moselle, with its steep and steeper terraced vine-clad slopes, is the Moselland eG Winzergenossenschaft, the biggest winegrowers’ cooperative in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, and the second-largest in all of Ger-many, who last year asked Krones to install a complete line rated at 2,500 containers an hour for bottling small batches and premium wines.

BIRRA / BITTERFELDER - GERMANY
From a beer dealer to a beer brewer.
In recent decades, the story has been a not unfamiliar one: long-established, tradition-steeped breweries had to close down their brewing operations, defeated by the pressure of competition and shrinking levels of demand, concentrating henceforth on selling beverages as a specialist wholesaler.

ACQUA / EUROWATERLAND - GREECE
The highest water bottling line in all of Greece.
The summer of 2011 saw the production start-up at Greece’s highest water bottling plant: Eurowaterland. On its new Krones / Kosme line, the company is filling 0.5 and 1.5-litre PET bottles with still mineral water at a maximum speed of 12,000 bottles per hour.
Where this line is particularly successful is the integrative combination of both Krones and Kosme machines.

CSD / GRAMEX - HUNGARY
Private-label and contract bottling.
The principal corporate focus at the Hungarian beverage producer Gramex 2000 is not house brands, but developing private-label beverages, and contract bottling. This philosophy has served the start-up company well over the past ten years. In terms of technology, the firm has opted for several small bottling lines, which in total permit abundant flexibility and are less investment-intensive.

OLIO / LAKONIA - GREECE
Cold-pressed.
In the Greek region of Laconia on the Peloponnese, the U.A.C. Lakonia enterprise is filling extra virgin olive oil for a network of Greek smallholders. For this purpose, the company has installed a new bottling line for glass and PET from Kosme, in addition to an existing relatively small Kosme line, plus a Kosme filler for canisters.

ACQUA / FONTAINE DE LA REINE - FRANCE
A right royal reputation.
During drinktec 2009, a new machine from Kosme was already attracting plenty of keen interest: unsurprisingly, since the Synchro’s monobloc design compactly concatenates the stretch blow-moulding machine, the filler and the capper. Major advantages include energy savings, reduced capital investment and lower operating costs. Since October 2009, the Synchro has been up and running at Fontaine de la Reine.

BIRRA / SPITAL - GERMANY
Brewing for a good cause.
One of the world’s oldest breweries, and its only hospital brewery, the Spital Brewery in Regensburg, has upgraded its bottling hall to incorporate the latest state of the art. The mid-tier client installed technology made by Krones and Kosme for an output of 7,800 bottles an hour – featuring a premiere: the first-ever combined Variocap closer able to handle crowns and screw-caps on a single machine.
