    Kosme KSB XR(G) & XR(G)s

The current portfolio of KOSME Austria's rotary blow molders includes two machine types: the XR(G) and the XR(G)s. While both machines share a fundamentally similar and compact design, the new machine generation is split into two distinct platform sizes to optimize output relative to the machines base space.

The XR(G)s features the small platform, designed for configurations with 3, 4, or 5 cavities.

The XR(G) platform accommodates larger setups with 6 or 8 cavities.

The maximum output range of the new machine generation reaches from 7500 bottles per hour for the 3XRs to 20000 bottles per hour for the biggest machine in the range, the 8XR.

Both platforms offer an optional large container configuration, called XRG &XRGs, enabling the production of containers up to 10 liters (2.64 gallons) – 4 liters (1.05 gallons) in their standard versions. For the large container option, the output ranges from 3600 bottles per hour (3XRs) to 9600 bottles per hour (8XR).

The Modular Mould Concept MTR is engineered to enable swift and effortless mould changes, providing the flexibility needed to adapt to ever-changing market demands. By employing the MTR mold design concept, machine downtime is drastically minimized thanks to rapid changeovers. The toolless version allows for a mold changeover time of approximately one minute, requiring only a single operator.

Sustainability is enhanced across the board with the Air Wizard Plus system, now included as a standard feature on all rotary machines. This system significantly reduces air consumption by recycling air used in the blowing phase for underlying processes.

The machines also feature an electrical servo-driven mechanical stretching mechanism, allowing for variable-speed stretching of heated preforms. This ensures optimal preparation and blowing results while further reducing the need for compressed air.

To further improve energy efficiency, ceramic reflectors are used in the heating process to reduce energy loss.

Additionally, the preferential heating option enables non-uniform heating of preforms. By applying a defined heat gradient along the circumference of the preforms, a 1:1.5 axial length ratio is achieved, resulting in superior performance when producing oval or asymmetrical bottles.

Technology for all: Some highlights from the Kosme portfolio

Krones plans to reorganize its Compact Class business unit

In light of the ongoing transformation in the beverage and liquid food industry, as well as increasing demands for sustainable, competitive, and efficient products, Krones is realigning its profitable growth strategy in the Compact Class business unit. This unit brings together Krones’ solutions for filling and packaging in the low to medium output range for beverages, wine and spirits, food, dairy products, as well as applications in the home and personal care sector and pharmaceuticals.

The Compact Class consists of four different subsidiaries: KOSME Italy, KOSME Austria, the sales and service company KOSME FBA (responsible for the markets in France and Belgium), which have been fully integrated into the Krones Group since 2009, and the labelling machine specialist Gernep, which was acquired in 2015. These entities will now be brought together under one roof – the new KOSME organisation.

The starting point for this integration was the joint development of a new labeling machine generation called Flectra  over the course of the last 12 months, which uniquely combines the expertise of both Kosme and Gernep: compact, flexible, and intuitive. The machine will be showcased and offered for sale for the first time live at this year’s drinktec in Munich (starting September 15, 2025).

The newly formed organization will be even more flexible in responding to customer needs, positioning itself as a strong unit in the face of competition, and strategically tapping into new markets and industries – both nationally and internationally. As part of this realignment, a completely new brand identity will also be developed in 2026.
